WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and son were found dead Monday and police said they were investigating the deaths as a homicide.

Yes, I do watch wrestling. Have since about 1991. I got hooked on the athletic performances and stories that the performers told with their bodies. And yes, unlike a lot of people, I know its fake. Actually, more like TV show or play with acting being done mostly with bodies than with words. Wrestling is a lot like a play. One shot at telling your "story" in front of thousands in arenas, and if a pay-per-view or television broadcast; millions.

Chris Benoit was one of the best. Ever. He was trained by legendary trainer/wrestler, Stu Hart- father of the best technical performer ever, Brett Hart. I'm sure you have heard of him. Chris was intensity personified. He always gave his all. In the ring he could "carry a match" with one-armed broken and bleeding and with one leg gone. He could make an old-timer look like he was in his still in his prime or a rookie a "superstar". Chris was also one of the final "versions" of the legendary wrestling group, The Four Horsemen, founded by Rick Flair and Arn Anderson. When he entered the WWE back in the early 2000s, Chris was part of a group called the New Radicals. That group of wrestlers brought back the art of wrestling to a company [WWE] that was dying, in my humble opinion, due to story-lines and less emphasis on in-ring performances. Chris was a man's wrestler. No flashy tights, no face paint, no pomp and circumstance entrances, no stage name. However, when he first started out in Canada and in Japan, he was known as The Pegasus Kid. And he wore a mask until he lost it in a match. Classic one too hear, since I've never seen it. Just a man who enjoyed performing for the sheer thrill and love of what he did. And in every match I have ever seen, it showed. Professionalism personified.

Back in early 2006, Chris took a sabbatical. He left for personal reasons (it was put over that he was injured). He took this shortly after another great performer died, Eddie Guerrero. I believe this had more of an emotional effect on him that others. Lives of wrestlers, sport-entertainers if you will, are private for the most part. We really do not know where they live, what their real names are; example "Hulk Hogan's" name is really Terry Boloa. Chris, like a lot of wrestlers probably have some demons. I hope it was not the cause of this tragedy.

Chris Benoit was 40 years old. He was taken with his wife Nancy and seven year old son, Daniel. In the course of writing, follow-up information on the death of Chris Benoit that the cause of this tragedy was of a double-murder suicide according to an updated report from WWE.com
